Oat & seed bars

Traditional flapjacks contain a lot of butter and sugar. Not what your body needs. These are a great alternative which have less sugar and no butter and make a great pre training snack.

Kitchen tips

If you have a smaller food processor split the ingredients and do half at a time, combining the two balls of mixture before adding them to the baking tray.

    Preheat the oven to 160oC. Line a 8x8inch baking tray with greaseproof paper. Remove the stones from the dates.

    Blitz the dates in a food processor until they are broken into small pieces. Add the oats, seeds and honey and blend until combined.

    Remove the mixture and place in a large bowl. Using your hands compress any excess mixture into the firm ball you have created.

    Tip the mixture into the baking tray and using the back of a metal spoon to press the mixture into the corners of the tray. Cook for 10-15 minutes or until the top begins to turn a darker brown.

    Leave to cool on a wire rack then use a sharp knife to cut into 8 bars. Store in a sealed container.
